New Purchases - Rogers & Canadian Utilities

On Friday, I made two small purchases, both commission free.

Rogers Communications (RCI.B)

25 shares @ $42.25
Initial yield 4.3%
Increase in forward 12-month dividends: $45.75

I now hold 225 shares of Rogers with an average price of $44.50.

I use Rogers for my internet, phone and cable services, which amounts to $1,844.16 per year, tax in. For fun, I calculated that with the current dividend of $1.83 per year, 1008 shares are necessary to pay for these services. With 225 shares already in my portfolio, an additional 783 shares are required; @ $42.12 per share, that's $32,979.96!

Canadian Utilities (CU)

25 shares @ $39.50
Initial yield 2.7%
Increase in forward 12-month dividends: $26.75

My yearly dividends now stand at $6,196.46.

  1. Have you taken a look at COH? If so what's your opinion. Definitely a value play with some risk but seems to be a very solid company.
