North West Company Increases Dividend


Today, The North West Company increased its dividend from $0.28 to $0.29 per quarter, or 3.6%. While the stock’s current dividend yield is 4.5%, my YOC is slightly over 8%.

The dividend increase adds $16.00 CAD to my yearly dividends.

  1. Had not looked at NW Company in a long time. I remember when I first started reviewing dividend stocks with any degree of seriousness about three years ago, it was one of a handul I first considered (along with Bird Construction and Chemtrade Logistiscs). For various reaons, did not end up buying any of them (although I did take another quick look at Bird the other day).
    Just took a quick peek at NW Company. Has had nice steady move in the last five years from $15 - $25, which is over a 10% annualized. Tack on a 4.4% yield and you are looking at a 15% return. Well done!

    1. Thanks. As you've pointed out, NWC has been very good to me. Along with decent capital appreciation, I've received $2,330 in dividends. Unfortunately, to get similar returns in todays market, one has to take on more risk.

      I haven't heard of Bird nor Chemtrade but will have a look this week.
